Liebe Freunde des Curlings,

willkommen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen! Nachdem die Curler des Sportclub Riessersee schon so oft die Gastfreundschaft anderer Länder erleben durften, ist es an der Zeit etwas zurückzugeben. Es ist uns eine große Ehre, die größte Europameisterschaft ihrer Art ausrichten zu dürfen. Noch nie konkurrierten so viele Mannschaften aus so vielen Ländern um den Titel. Wir hoffen, sie werden dies in einer freundschaftlichen und gesunden Atmosphäre tun und sich in unserer schönen Heimat wohlfühlen.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen bietet nämlich durch seine traditionsreichen und doch modernen Sportstätten, seine herzlichen Einwohner und seine beeindruckende Bergkulisse die idealen Rahmenbedingungen, um diese Meisterschaft zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis für die gesamte europäische Curling-Familie werden zu lassen. Auch wir als Veranstalter werden alles dafür tun, obwohl die Umstände nicht einfach sind. Aber wir sind es dem Sport, der uns alle verbindet, schuldig, ihn würdig zu feiern. Und hoffentlich wird Curling, das in den letzten Jahren, so sehr an Beliebtheit und Bekanntheit gewann, seinen Erfolgszug während dieses Wettbewerbs fortsetzen.

Das ist das Ziel, das Athleten, Funktionäre, Besucher und Pressevertreter gemeinsam anstreben sollten. Und außerdem, lasst uns alle sportliche Höchstleistungen und neue Freundschaften anstreben - auf und neben dem Eis.

Dear friends of curling,

welcome to Garmisch-Partenkirchen! Having received the hospitality of European countries so often, it is time for the Curlers of the Sportclub Riessersee to give something back. We consider it a great honor to be able to host the largest European Championships of their kind. Never before have so many teams from so many countries competed for the title. We hope they will do so in a warm and healthyl atmosphere and will feel at ease in our beautiful home town.

After all, Garmisch-Partenkirchens offers not only a traditional yet modern sports complex, but also friendly inhabitants and an impressive scenery. It combines the ideal conditions to make this championship an event to remember for the whole curling-family. Of course, as organizers, we will contribute to this purpose, too – although the circumstances are not easy. But we owe the sport, that unites us all, a proper celebration. We all hope that Curling, that gained so much popularity in the recent past, will continue to blossom throughout these days to come.

Athletes, officials, visitors and media should strive for this achievement. And –besides that - let’s all strive for outstanding performances and new  friendships - on and off the ice.
